There are plenty of other sites that are a lot more professionally organized and run, I don't mind paying either if there is something professional and of substance rather than a cult like atmosphere, constantly asking for donations to be part of the "in crowd."Ī lot of the members are rude and snarky or want a single minded mentality when discussing what happened. (they do make money from ads) They run it like a telethon on the You Tube channel. They are like a cult, with lots of cult like behavior! They also scam members for "donations" to run the site, with this cult like owner on the You Tube Channel, she rakes in a ton of money under the guise that the server bill was high or the ads are not paying off because of covid. Their rules only seem to apply to those whose theories do not align with theirs. But if you go along with their ideology, your posts will be safe. If you post something contrary to what the site wants you to think, for example, of someone's guilt or innocence, they will pick on you, delete your posts and bully you. However, that is not the main beef I have with them. Just look at the home page, there are so many repetitious forums it will make your head swim. Its simply terrible from a technical standpoint and a very risky website to trust your details with, even if the staff were a model of responsibility and competency, but the combination of a very outdated and insecure site along with poor moderation and questionable staff behavior are really concerning. That is nothing to say of the poor behavior by staff or any other aspect of the site which many other comments here can cover.

If you still have access to your account you should create a secure password for it and scrub it of as much personal information as you can before its too late. If you've ever had an account on WS, then I'd highly suggest not using that password on any other accounts or linking it to any of your other accounts in any way. If you message a member of staff and ask for your account to be deleted, rather than deleting your account they will either not respond to your message, or simply ban your account but leave all your details intact. These two factors combine to form a data security nightmare. The website is not secure, and there is no way to delete your account or remove your posts/personal details once you've made them.
There's a lot of good, but you have to wade through an endless amount of hooey to get there. The site does offer a large number of resources for families of those who are missing, and can be a really good source of support. And the moderators do help to keep the crazies at bay, at least those that are obviously wearing tinfoil hats. In its defense, the site does offer the opportunity for people to bring together skills from all different walks of life, and information is shared that can lead to real solutions in some of these cases - many unidentified individuals have gotten their names and dignity returned to them, and clues have helped law enforcement make progress in solving murders or finding missing persons. Websleuths allegedly does not allow discussion of sleuthing individuals not named as persons of interest, yet they have over 100 threads for Gabriel Petito in which it's a free-for-all bashing the boyfriend's family and sharing their personal details, that whole mess should have been a shameful embarrassment yet moderators were standing there shoulder-to-shoulder with the others slinging mud and posting an endless litany of "Kill the monsters" and "Poor Gabby" and similar drivel. Do yourself a favor and never read a thread about a missing child, because you will be subjected to a never-ending Greek chorus about the failures of CPS or the ruthlessness of CPS or the ignorance/laziness/corruptness/cruelty of CPS for not being omniscient (because moaning about it always helps find a missing child.) Add to that the never-ending chain of "that child should have been taken away and given to me, I would have loved it" and that good old standby "RIP" and you'll want to rip your own face off after a while. Users are constantly reminded that social media can't be used to substantiate factual information, yet readers are constantly pointed in the direction of interesting tidbits seen on sites such as Facebook - there are threads that have little to nothing to do with coming together to help the victim, but instead are just post after post telling the reader to go get info from Facebook.
It's great that they make the attempt to confine discussion to what they consider fact, but they declare mainstream media to be the only justifiable source to verify fact all while acknowledging that most of what is promoted by mainstream media today has little credibility due to bad reporting, incorrect "facts", and inconsistency.
The concept of this site is terrific, but execution leaves much to be desired.
